New Toronto Street Food Bank Worker
Daily Bread Food Bank works towards long-term solutions to end hunger and poverty and runs innovative programs to support individuals living on low incomes and experiencing food insecurity. Daily Bread distributes fresh and shelf-stable food, and fresh-cooked meals to 144 member agencies and 205 food programs across Toronto. Daily Bread also publishes the influential Who’s Hungry report - an annual survey measuring trends in food insecurity and poverty in Toronto to educate the public and spark policy change.
Job Title: New Toronto Street Food Bank Worker
Reporting to: Manager, Client Programs
Location: 191 New Toronto Street, Toronto, ON M8V 2E7
Term of Contract: Full-Time Contract for 8 weeks, 35 hours per week; the start date will be ASAP
Wage Rate: $18.75 per hour + 4% Vacation Pay
Working Conditions: On-Site, Physical work with bending, lifting, and stocking products.
To be eligible, participants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students, youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
Position Function
Provides direct support to clients accessing Daily Bread’s New Toronto Street Food Bank.
Assist with client intake, food distribution, data entry, and participant engagement.
Responsibilities
- Assistance and support to program staff regarding the daily operations of food bank
- programs located at Daily Bread Food Bank.
- Placing and receiving food orders and preparing food for distribution.
- Working directly with clients, completing client intake and assessment, as well as providing information and referrals to other supports clients may require (housing, legal, etc.).
- Training, support, and supervision of volunteers; assistance in organizing and delegating tasks to volunteers.
Education/Experience
- Candidates enrolled in programs related to social or community work, community development and/or related skills are encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with diverse populations utilizing anti-oppression, community building,
- and participant-centred approaches to practice.
- Experience initiating changes based on observation and feedback, as well as following through on tasks to completion.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team approach.
- Ability to take a leadership role.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as lifting up to 20lb
